Everton Football Club’s owner Farhad Moshiri is reportedly set to sell his club for £500 million ($615 million), according to an exclusive report from the Guardian on Tuesday.

The British-Iranian owner has not publicly admitted the sale of the club, nor did he reveal the reason to do so, but he has been seeking outside investments for months and is reportedly still interested in maintaining a minority stake in the club. Everton recently spent £550 million on the construction of a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock in Liverpool.

Moshiri has run the club for seven years, during which he saw it spend over £700 million on players. Over the same period, Everton has only recouped £400 million.

The club is also in a financial crisis after suspending all sponsorship deals with Russian companies tied to Alisher Usmanov due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Multiple potential purchasers have shown interest in Everton, and the deal will likely go down once Moshiri reveals his official position on the sale of his club.

Moshiri’s call to sell Everton comes amid the team’s struggle in the Premier League this season. The Merseyside club is in the relegation zone, sitting in 19th place on the 20-team Premier League table.

The club sacked manager Frank Lampard on Monday and will be led by an interim head until a new appointment is made.
