Jeju flights were canceled and delayed Friday due to bad weather, capping a week of on-and-off disruptions due to heavy snow and strong winds.

A total of 65 Jeju International Airport flights — 31 outbound and 34 inbound — were canceled as of 1 p.m., while a total of 51 flights — 26 outbound and 25 inbound — were delayed, according to the Korea Airport Corporation.

On Friday, 457 domestic flights and 10 international flights were scheduled to depart from and arrive at the airport.

Wind shear and strong wind warnings have been issued at the airport in the morning.

Due to the harsh weather condition, Koreans Air Lines canceled 28 flights from 1 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Other airlines, including Asiana Airlines and Air Busan, canceled their flights for the afternoon, while some airlines, such as Jeju Air, had not made a decision on flight cancelations as of 1 p.m.

“Flight cancelations are occurring due to strong winds at the airport,” said a spokesperson for Jeju International Airport.

“Operations are likely to resume later as weather conditions will improve from 6 p.m. according to the forecast.”

Heavy snow advisories were issued for mountainous areas of the island Friday morning.

The disruption of the airport’s operation comes only after three days that flights traveling through the airport had been canceled and delayed due to harsh weather conditions.

Over 40,000 passengers were stranded at Jeju International Airport on Jan. 24, which was the last day of the country’s four-day Lunar New Year holiday.

A total of 466 domestic and 10 international flights were canceled that day.
