Democratic Party Chairman Lee Jae-myung appeared at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office on Saturday.
This is his second summoning to the prosecutors for questioning this year as he showed up at the Suwon district office on Jan. 10 for another accusation against him.
While he was questioned on a quid pro quo allegation surrounding a corporate sponsorship, on Saturday Lee was summoned to be asked on apartment complex development projects, which is suspected of creating a political slush fund.
Lee, who stood alone in front of the press unlike the first when he was surrounded by DP lawmakers, emphasized that he was being politically persecuted by the Yoon Suk Yeol government.
“Remember this scene today,” Lee said, reading a statement he has prepared. “Right here today is where the Yoon Suk Yeol prosecutors’ dictatorship government has destroyed the rule of law and the constitutional order.”
Lee said everything about the two development projects –Daejang-dong and Wirye – is in his statement that he has prepared for the prosecutors. He said he plans to disclose it soon, which will show the truth and the absurdity of the prosecutors’ allegations.
However, Lee did not answer any questions by the reporters.
