Woori Financial Group received the 2023 Korea Green and Climate Award, announced the company on Friday.

The award was presented at a ceremony organized by the National Assembly Forum on Climate Change.

The event marked its 13th anniversary this year.

The award is given to recognize an entity or an individual who made a meaningful contribution toward creating a sustainable, carbon neutral society to set an exemplary case and expand such cases, according to Woori.

Woori’s announcement on its plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and to support 100 trillion won in environment, social and governance (ESG) by 2030 contributed to the award, it said. Its expansion of green finance and management system on climate risks also helped.

Woori is “pushing for multi-sided businesses with a goal to halt loss of the diversity of living things and to recover the ecosystem,” said a spokesperson for Woori Financial Group. The company was the first in the country to participate in the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), the spokesperson added.

TNFD is a global initiative that aims to offer financial institutions and companies a complete picture of their environmental risks.
Woori hosted an international conference last November, which was attended by ESG experts.
