Three Hyundai and Kia cars earned the highest safety rating, Top Safety Pick Plus (TSP+), from the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), Hyundai Motor said Sunday.

According to the carmaker, Hyundai’s Palisade sport utility vehicle (SUV), Genesis G90 sedan and Kia’s Telluride SUV received the highest rating in the crash safety performance test conducted by the IIHS.

The Palisade and G90 were granted the top rating for the second year in a row.

Hyundai’s Sonata sedan earned the Top Safety Pick (TSP) mark.

The IIHS strengthened its safety requirements for the TSP+ and TSP marks this year. For the 2023 Top Safety Pick Awards, a total of 48 models received either TSP+ or TSP marks, compared to last year’s 101 models.

Of this year’s winners, 28 models earned the TSP+.

In order to receive the TSP+, cars are required to meet the highest safety standards in four crash tests: the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, and original moderate overlap front and side tests.

Founded in 1959, the IIHS is a nonprofit organization that evaluates and reviews vehicle safety performance.
