Doosan Enerbility won a deal to build a combined cycle power plant in Kazakhstan.

It signed a contract with Turkistan LLP, a subsidiary of Kazakhstan's Samruk-Kazyna sovereign wealth fund, to construct a combined cycle power plant in Shymkent, a southern industrial city of Kazakhstan, the power plant builder said Wednesday. Doosan Enerbility won the 1.15 trillion won ($882 million) deal by bidding with Bazis, a local builder.

The 1,000-megawatt plant will be built using the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) method, which encompasses the entire construction process from design to material supply, installation and commissioning, and will be completed by August 2026.

"The trust Doosan Enerbility won for successfully completing the Karabatan combined cycle power plant in 2020 amid the pandemic laid the groundwork for this project contract," Doosan Enerbility CEO Jung Yeon-in said, adding that Doosan Enerbility will continue to strengthen its presence in the Kazakh power generation market by landing another successful construction.

Doosan Enerbility constructed the 310-megawatt Karabatan power plant in 2020 after signing a deal with Karabatan Utility Solutions, another sovereign wealth fund subsidiary, in 2015.

The company has been expanding its construction business overseas by winning orders to build the Ukudu plant in Guam in 2020 and the Jafurah plant in Saudi Arabia last year.
