KT, a major telecommunications provider, shortlisted three candidates for its CEO post out of dozens of applicants as the company has undergone an unprecedented leadership vacuum since March.

The three candidates are Kim Young-shub, a former CEO of LG CNS, Park Yoon-young, a former president at KT, and Cha Sang-kyun, a professor at Seoul National University.

A final nomination will be announced next week after its nomination committee comprising newly-appointed board members review the criteria and qualifications of the candidates.

KT's attempts to appoint new CEO have fallen apart multiple times as the Yoon Suk Yeol administration pointed to KT's lack of transparency and independence in its nomination process.

Still, others see the criticism as a pressure to insert a figure who could be well aligned with the government.
