Qualcomm, Hyundai collaborate on infotainment system [QUALCOMM]

The infotainment system for Hyundai Motor’s future purpose-built vehicles (PBVs) will run on Qualcomm’s latest automotive solutions.

This is the first time Hyundai Motor and Qualcomm collaborated on an infotainment system.

PBVs are vehicles with flexible platforms that can serve different customer purposes including logistics and commercial activities.

Qualcomm said Thursday it will supply its newest Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit Platforms for the infotainment system installed in Hyundai Motor Group's PBV lineup, including the Hyundai Motor, Kia and Genesis brands.

Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit Platform is Qualcomm’s in-vehicle solution that decides the quality of multimedia graphics and audio and artificial intelligence functions realized through the infotainment system, as well as energy consumption.

“[It is] engineered to achieve optimal power consumption while delivering top-level graphics and immersive multimedia and audio experiences,” the American chipmaker said in a release Thursday.

“With Qualcomm Technologies’ most advanced AI engine and machine learning capabilities for intuitive and intelligent systems, it is possible to support digitally advanced applications such as in-vehicle virtual assistance, adaptive human interfaces and the ability to facilitate natural communication between the vehicle and passengers for safety and comfort.”

The two companies have been already collaborating on connectivity solutions since 2011 to offer a stable communication platform within Hyundai’s vehicles.

“Qualcomm Technologies has been a trusted technology partner in the automotive industry for over 20 years, with leading automakers looking to Qualcomm Technologies for our leadership, innovation and expertise,” Qualcomm Senior Vice President and President of Asia-Pacific Kwon Oh-hyung said.

“We are excited to work with Hyundai Motor Group on PBV to provide digital in-vehicle experiences powered by the Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit platform.”
