Hyundai Motor offers wide range of Jamboree aid

Hyundai Motor Group's efforts to help the World Scout Jamboree event currently underway range from offering some emergency aid to providing young scouts a chance to tour the company's auto factory.

The Korean automaker said Monday it started a tour program of its Jeonju plant, North Jeolla, for around 40 scouts from the Netherlands, Japan and Malaysia who applied in advance.

The scouts toured the eco-friendly vehicle production line in the plant, including hydrogen-powered buses and trucks. The Jeonju plant can manufacture around 103,000 vehicles annually.

The program will take place over four days through Friday to help the scouts "increase their understanding of the auto industry," the company said, adding that additional tour programs to Hyundai's research center in Namyang, Gyeonggi, are also under consideration.

Hyundai Motor was the first Korean private company to offer aid to the Jamboree event, which kicked off on Thursday.

It donated 50,000 water bottles and 50,000 parasols, as well as a total of 24 portable toilets to the campsite in Saemangeum, an estuarine tidal flat with little shade located in Buan County.

Hyundai also offered a vehicle that allows scouts to rest on premium capsule-type seats and receive medical services.

Two Universe hydrogen fuel cell buses, which the company calls "mobile offices," were also sent to the event so that scouts can work and rest inside.

The Korean automaker also dispatched 100 cleaning experts to the event to help clean the site, by picking up garbage and recycling, every day from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Hyundai also plans to offer the Jeonju World Cup Stadium, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors's home ground, to host a K-pop concert scheduled for Friday and the Jamboree's main event.
