Hyundai Motor’s luxury brand Genesis racked up 1 million in sales since its debut in 2015, the carmaker said Sunday.
According to Hyundai, its Genesis brand sold a cumulative total of 690,177 cars in Korea and 318,627 cars overseas as of August, adding up to a combined 1,008,804 units sold worldwide over the past seven years and 10 months.
The brand hit the 500,000 sales milestone about two years ago.
The annual sales number has been on a constant uptrend, with 201,415 in 2021, 215,128 in 2022 and 154,035 in this year to date, according to Hyundai Motor.
The sales growth was led by the Genesis G80 sedan, which rolled out in 2016. The G80 sedans as well as its electrified model sold a combined 390,738 units.
Genesis GV80, the brand’s first sport utility vehicle (SUV), and GV70 SUV sold a cumulative 173,882 and 160,965 units each.
There are currently 10 models under the Genesis brand, including five sedans, two SUVs and three EVs. Genesis cars are available in 17 countries including the United States, China and European countries.
The luxury brand plans to electrify all of its new cars starting 2025, and is considering increased diversification of its production bases amid growing demand for EVs.
Genesis ranked the highest in the J.D. Power 2023 U.S. Tech Experience Index Study in August, outrunning other luxury brands.
