Jungkook of boy band BTS has been named on The Hollywood Reporter’s inaugural Platinum Player power list of 25 influential artists around the world, as the only K-pop singer.
Earlier this week, the Hollywood Reporter chose 25 artists to commemorate their musical achievements and influence across the globe.
Jungkook stands alongside other global pop music icons such as Beyoncé, Drake and Taylor Swift.
The Hollywood Reporter noted how Jungkook smoothly managed the transition from participating in activities as part of a group to starting his solo career with his first official single “Seven,” released in July.
The song featuring U.S. rapper Latto topped the Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart after its release and won MTV Video Music Awards’ Song of the Summer.
“BTS may have hit the pause button as members [need to] complete military service, but Jungkook is having the most fun by topping the charts with the thumping hit ‘Seven,’” The Hollywood Reporter wrote.
The current hiatus in BTS’s group activities is due to the mandatory military service. In Korea, all able-bodied young men are required to serve around one and a half years in the military.
Out of the seven members, three members — Jin, J-Hope and Suga — have started their military services. The other four members — RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook — are yet to start their services.
“All seven members recently agreed to renew their exclusive contracts with their current agency BigHit Music, a music label run by HYBE, and the company hopes to see their reunion after 2025 upon the completion of military duties,” HYBE said Wednesday.
