Judoka Park Eun-song takes bronze in -57 kilograms

Korea’s Park Eun-song took bronze in the women’s judo -57 kilograms division at the Asiad in Hangzhou, China on Monday.
 
Park, 24, defeated United Arab Emirates’s Altantseteseg Batsukh, 26, by ippon, the highest score awarded in judo.
 
Her win marked Korea’s fourth medal in judo at this year’s Asiad, following a silver finish by Lee Ha-rim and bronze finishes by Jung Ye-rin and An Ba-ul on Monday.

Park advanced past the elimination round of 16 against Mongolia by fusen-gachi, a score awarded when the opponent does not show up. She then won her quarterfinal match against Turkmenistan’s by waza-ari, the second-highest score in judo.
 
She lost the gold medal qualifying round to Japan’s Momo Tamaoki, who won the match by ippon.
 
Park will have another shot at a podium finish in the mixed team event, for which matches begin on Wednesday.
 
Korea did not medal in the women’s judo -57 kilograms division at the last Asian Games, in Jakarta, Indonesia, in 2018.
