Korean judoka Jung Ye-rin won a bronze medal in the -52 kilograms division of women’s judo, winning the Korean delegation its second medal in the sport at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China on Sunday.

Jung, 27, defeated Kazakhstan’s Galiya Tynbayeva, 23, by waza-ari, the second highest score awarded in judo. Her win followed Lee Ha-rim’s silver medal finish in the men’s -60 kilograms division.

Jung advanced to the semifinals, the gold-medal qualifying round, by winning each of her two previous matches by default.

She won her match in the elimination round of 16 against Hong Kong’s Tsui Shuk Ki, 27, by fusen-gachi, a victory awarded when the opponent does not show up.

Jung then won her quarterfinal round against Japan’s Ai Shishime, 29, by kiken-gachi, which is handed down when the opponent withdraws.

Jung lost the semifinal round to the United Arab Emirates’s Bishrelt Khorloodoi, 36, who won the match by waza-ari.

Korean judoka Lee Hye-kyeong, 27, qualified for a bronze medal match in the women’s judo -48 kilograms division but withdrew from the round.

Korea’s An Ba-ul had yet to compete in the men’s judo -66 kilograms division as of press time.
