LG to release foldable laptop, LG Gram Fold

LG Electronics is set to release the LG Gram Fold, a foldable laptop, in October.

The LG Gram Fold laptop will inherit the ultralight and widescreen elements of the LG Gram lineup while adding a foldable feature, the electronics maker said in a press release Monday.

The foldable laptop will be the first of its kind launched by a Korean company.

The LG Gram Fold is run by a 13th-generation Intel Core i5-1335U processor with 10 cores and 12 threads. It also includes 16 gigabytes of RAM and a 512-gigabyte storage option.

The organic light-emitting diode (OLED) laptop will be 9.4 millimeters (0.37 inch) thick with a 17-inch display when unfolded, and offer a 12-inch display when folded.

The screens will be 4:3 in ratio with a 2560 x 1920 resolution and 3:2 in ratio with a 1920 x 1280 resolution, respectively.

LG Gram Fold weighs 1,250 grams (2.76 pounds) with a 72-watt-hour battery attached. The foldable laptops will be equipped with three Dolby Atmos speakers.

LG Electronics said the hinge passed a durability test involving more than 30,000 folds.

The LG Gram Fold laptops will be available on LG’s online store LGE.com starting Oct. 4.

LG began showcasing its foldable laptops at 20 LG Best Shops across the country, including The Hyundai Seoul branch in Yeouido, western Seoul, on Monday.

LG Gram Fold will be a new standard for premium laptops and offer customers a new lifestyle as a device coveted by everyone, LG Electronics’ marketing head Kim Sun-hyung said in a statement.
