Korean women's hockey team draw 1-1 with India

The Korean women’s hockey team drew 1-1 with India in their third pool stage match at the Hangzhou Asian Games on Sunday, sharing one point each.

The game, held at Gongshu Canal Sports Park Stadium in Hangzhou, China, offered little excitement, with both teams struggling to score during the contest.

The first goal of the game came from Korea’s Cho Hye-jin, who scored a penalty in the first quarter. Neither side then managed to score through the end of the first and second quarters, until Navennet Kaur equalized in the third quarter.

Both sides failed to break the deadlock through the end of the match, however, and 1-1 was the final score.

The draw was the first in the group stage for both sides. Korea previously secured two wins against Singapore and Hong Kong in Pool A.

A total of 10 countries, divided into two groups of five, compete in this year’s Asiad hockey. The top two teams from each group reach the semifinals.

The Korean women’s team has won five Asiad gold medals, with their most recent in 2014.

The team will continue a bid to win their sixth Asiad gold medal as they take on Malaysia in their final group stage match at the same venue on Tuesday.
