'Dune' director Denis Villeneuve to visit Korea before release of sequel
Director Denis Villeneuve will visit Korea for the first time in December, Warner Bros. Korea announced Wednesday.
Villeneuve, who directed the “Dune” films — “Dune” (2021), which grossed $402 million worldwide, and the upcoming “Dune: Part Two,” slated for release in February next year — will visit Korea on Dec. 8 ahead of the release of the second film. The films are adaptations of the popular science fiction classic Dune franchise by author Frank Herbert.
Villeneuve will participate in a press conference and meet with prospective audiences of “Dune: Part Two” during his visit in December.
“Dune: Part Two” will follow actor Timothée Chalamet’s character, Paul Atreides, as he fully realizes his power and destiny and goes on a journey to revenge the death of his father and the fall of his family.
“Dune” opened in Korea during the Covid-19 pandemic and attracted 1.54 million moviegoers, but requests for a re-release have continued as the film garnered a core fandom, according to Warner Bros. Korea.
Born in Canada, Villeneuve is one of Hollywood’s leading directors today and has helmed films in the thriller and sci-fi genres to great critical and commercial acclaim, such as “Sicario” (2015),” “Arrival” (2016) and “Blade Runner 2049” (2017).
His films have grossed over $1.1 billion worldwide in total.
