The Nam District and Ulju County in Ulsan suffered a blackout on Wednesday.

The Ulsan city government sent out an emergency message at 3:40 p.m. notifying that a blackout had occurred around the Ok-dong area in the Nam District.

The city government added that there was a surge of 119 emergency calls.

Due to the blackout, some 140 traffic lights went out.

There were also 29 calls made to first responders that people were trapped in elevators.

Some of the restaurant owners complained that their fish were dying because of the blackout while car owners had trouble removing their cars from an automated parking garage.

In some severe cases, hospitals were having trouble with patients that relied on electronic devices.

The Korea Electric Power Corp.’s Ulsan office said it suspects a transformer problem as the cause of the blackout.
