Netflix docuseries "In the Name of God: A Holy Betrayal," which examines Korea's religious cults, is returning with a second season, according to a JTBC report.

The series's production will begin this month with plans to air next year, a show insider told JTBC on Wednesday.

The exact release date has not been set yet.

The first season was released on March 3 with eight episodes, with Cho Sung-hyun as the main producer.

The series exposed the wrongdoings and illegalities of four cult leaders in Korea, shedding light on how they abused their position of power to abuse their followers by sexually assaulting them and gaslighting them.

The series caused a sensation in Korea, especially for the victims' accounts of sexual assault by Jeong Myeong-seok, the leader of the controversial pseudo-Christian religious organization Jesus Morning Star, commonly known as JMS.

Jeong has served 10 years in prison for sexual assault and is facing charges of the same crime.

The prosecution is seeking a 30-year prison sentence and 500 hours of sexual violence education program for Jeong, as well as mandatory wearing of a tracking device for 20 years after release.
