A Korean tourist who was reportedly mugged in Milan earlier this month received the immediate consular attention of the Korean government, said the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.

“The Consulate General in Milan communicated with the Korean national immediately after receiving the report on the incident in the early morning hours of Jan. 4, and promptly provided consular assistance including guidance on hospital contacts and reported the case to the local police,” said the ministry in a statement.

The ministry’s statement came after a local media report alleged the Korean consulate general in Milan responded in a lukewarm manner to harassment by an armed robber who was also accused of making racist comments against the tourist.
