It was the defensive midfielder’s second goal in the Serbian Superliga after joining Red Star in the middle of the 2023-24 season on a four-year contract from Greek club Olympiacos.
 
Red Star were already up 2-1 after Guelor Kanga made his penalty in the 36th minute, awarded after a VAR review and a yellow card for TSC’s Milos Vulic. The home side equalized in the 61st minute with a goal from Milos Pantovic but barely had enough time to catch their breath before Red Star’s Osman Bukari put one back with an assist from Kanga to retake the lead.
 
Hwang’s impact came in the 84th minute when he took the penalty and put the ball into the bottom left corner.  
 
It was Hwang’s first goal from a penalty on the Red Star roster. He scored his first-ever Serbian Superliga goal in December, which also came late in the game and secured the team a 3-1 victory. And he has so far recorded two assists, one in last week’s 3-0 win over Cukaricki and another in a 4-1 victory over Spartak in December.
 
Red Star are currently No. 2 in the top-tier Serbian league, one point behind league leaders — and local rivals — Partizan. Red Star also sit a comfortable 12 points ahead of No. 3 TSC following the Saturday match, their fourth straight win.
 
Red Star, who are the most decorated team in the Serbian Superliga, are after their seventh-straight title this season. Partizan are the only other club that has ever won the league title since its founding in 2006.
 
Red Star next play Partizan on Saturday at home.
