Hyundai, Kia EVs grab 48 international awards

EVs from Hyundai Motor and Kia are receiving awards across international stages for both their marketability and electrification features.
 
All eyes are now on the World Car of the Year award, for which the Kia EV9 is a top-three finalist. That winner will be announced on March 27 at the New York International Auto Show.

The Korean automakers said Tuesday their EVs have won a total of 48 awards from 13 different countries over the past six months. Of them, 41 came from North America and Europe.

 
Kia's EV9 has been the biggest contributor, having taken home 17 awards including the North American Utility Vehicle of the Year from the North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year awards, also known as the Nactoy.

The three-seater SUV won the “Luxury” category of the German Car of the Year awards, also known as the Gcoty.

The EV9 will now compete with BYD's Seal sedan and Volvo's EX30 for World Car of the Year. The title, created in 2004, is considered one of the three most prestigious automobile awards alongside the Nactoy and the European Car of the Year. Hyundai's Ioniq 6 was last year's winner.
 
The Ioniq 5 sedan has been crowned with eight awards over the past six months, having been crowned the Straits Times Car of the Year and the Sgcarmart Car of the Year. 
 
Hyundai's Genesis GV60 has taken home three prizes, including China's 2024 SUV of the Year title.
 
Those EVs are all powered by an E-GMP EV-dedicated platform, which accommodates 800-volt charging that allows EVs to be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in 18 minutes.

The long-ranged Ioniq 6 has been ranked the most fuel-efficient car on the U.S. market according to efficiency ratings reported by the U.S. Energy Department and Environmental Protection Agency. 
 
“We are delighted to share the news of Hyundai, Kia and Genesis EVs winning various prestigious awards,” Hyundai Motor Group said on Tuesday. “We will strengthen our position in the world's EV market with various competitive EV models.”
