SKT on Thursday unveiled a new company emblem celebrating its 40th anniversary and pledged its commitment in AI business.

"SKT's 40 years of achievements were only possible due to its own DNA that has attempted to overcome challenging situations and exert effort to make a successful history," said SKT CEO Ryu Young-sang in a release Thursday.

"On the back of such DNA, SKT will once again write a successful story to leap forward as a global AI company."

SKT, formerly known as Korea Mobile Telecom Services, started its business by launching vehicle phones in 1984, followed by the commercialization of CDMA in 1996 and the launch of LTE-A and 5G networks in the following years.

On the back of its mobile communication technology, SKT has also delved into media, commerce and cloud services, which later paved the way for metaverse, healthcare and mobility services as well.

Forty years on, the company vies to become a global leader in the burgeoning AI industry.

SKT is especially banking on a global AI association called GTAA (Global Telco AI Alliance), which it is a member of along with Deutsche Telekom, E& Group, Singtel Group, Softbank and others, to make a foray into the global AI industry.
