LG Electronics released a display monitor optimized for breast X-rays on Thursday, expanding its presence in the burgeoning global medical device market.

The 21-inch screen, dubbed 21HQ613D, is equipped to detect fine tumors and other breast abnormalities on its five-megapixel display.

The new model offers 1,100 candelas per square meter in brightness and a contrast ratio of 1,800:1, rendering clear images to aid medical diagnosis. It also has various image modes, including “focus view mode” for accentuating lesion areas and “pathology mode” for close-up, focused images as if seen through a microscope.

The monitor supports bidirectional auto-pivot, automatically adjusting screen content according to the monitor’s rotation.

It has also obtained FDA Class 2 certification from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Including the latest product, the Korean electronics maker has a total of 13 medical display devices in its lineup, including a three-megapixel display utilized for radiographic image interpretation, an eight-megapixel screen and a 12-megapixel display. The screens can be used to simultaneously diagnose multiple images.

LG has inked a 10-million-euro supply deal with French hospital supplier Centrale d’Achat de l’Informatique Hospitaliere last year to supply eight types of medical displays for four years. It is the largest project that LG Electronics has secured since it started developing medical displays in 2016.

The global mammography market is projected to grow 11.6 percent annually to reach $6.9 billion by 2033 from $2.3 billion in 2023, according to market researcher Persistence Market Research.

LG Electronics will accelerate its growth in the business-to-business (B2B) medical equipment market, said LG Electronics CEO William Cho at the general shareholders’ meeting held on March 26.

“We will provide a distinguished customer experience in the B2B medical device sector by leveraging a diverse lineup of high-tech medical monitors, including new products for mammography monitors,” said LG Electronics’ Lee Yoon-seok, head of IT business, in a statement.
