Kia is edging into the pickup truck market with its very first model, the Kia Tasman.
The Korean automaker said Thursday its first mid-size pickup, Tasman, will make its global debut in 2025. Its major target markets include Korea, Australia and Middle East countries.
The pickup's name was inspired by Tasmania, an island state of Australia, Kia said.
Production will start in February 2025. The model is reported to come with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine.
Tasman will compete with KG Mobility's Rexton Sports, Chevolet's Colorado and the Ford Ranger in the global markets.
