SK On won bronze at the 2024 Edison Awards for its cobalt-free EV batteries, the battery maker said Sunday.

The annual Edison Awards, held from Wednesday to Friday in Florida, recognize the year's innovative products and services.

SK On's cobalt-free battery, which the company called “a crucial step toward promoting sustainable energy and transportation,” was recognized in the Smart Transportation category on Thursday.

This year marks SK On's second consecutive Edison Award win.

Cobalt is often associated with ethical concerns related to its extraction process. SK On developed the cobalt-free battery more than a year ahead of its target date.
