[단독] 중국에서 풀려난 손준호, K5팀 건융FC에서 새출발

중국에 체포돼 319일간 갇혀있다 지난달 풀려난 전 산둥 타이산 미드필더 손준호(31)가 K5 리그 건융FC로 이적한 것으로 22일 확인됐다.

건융 FC 관계자는 이날 코리아중앙데일리에 손준호가 팀에 합류한 것이 맞다고 밝혔다. 손준호의 새로운 팀이 확인된 것은 이번이 처음이다.

K5리그는 세미프로 K4리그 아래에 있는 아마추어 리그다. K리그 이적 시즌은 지난달 이미 끝났다. 하지만 K5리그는 프로 리그 규정 적용을 받지 않아 손준호는 새 팀에 둥지를 틀 수 있었다.

손준호의 이적은 10개월 전 중국 공항에서 공안에 체포된 후 구금됐다가 가까스로 풀려나 귀국한 뒤 성사됐다.

K5리그 팀 합류는 프로리그 복귀 전 축구에 대한 감각을 되찾기 위한 것으로 보인다. 그러나 건융FC 관계자는 이날 손준호가 중국으로 가기 전 소속팀이었던 전북현대모터스로 돌아갈 수 있을지는 확실치 않다고 말했다.

손준호는 지난해 5월 12일 중국 상하이의 공항에서 체포됐다. 당시 중국 정부는 뇌물 수수 혐의 관련 수사를 위해 체포했다고 주장했다. 체포 이후 37일만에 구속 수사로 전환돼 중국에서 수감생활을 했다.

중국 법에 따르면 긴급 체포해 구속 영장 없이 최대 37일 동안 구금이 가능하다.

손준호는 중국 정부가 축구 승부조작을 단속하는 과정 중 체포됐지만, 일각에선 이를 한국 정부에 압력을 넣기 위한 움직임으로 해석한다. 손 선수의 혐의와 이를 둘러싼 정황은 확실히 밝혀진 바 없으며, 언제 어디서, 어떤 재판을 받았는지도 불분명하다. 다만 10일간의 비공개 재판 끝에 무혐의 판정을 받고 풀려난 것으로 알려져 있다.

손준호는 2014년 K리그1 팀 포항 스틸러스에서 프로 생활을 시작해 2018년 전북현대모터스로 이적했다. 전북에 있을 당시 가장 빛나는 시절을 보냈다. 팀 주전으로 활약하면서 2018, 2019, 2020년 K리그1 우승을 차지했고 2020년엔 한국 FA컵 (현재는 코리아컵)까지 거머쥐었다. 2021년 중국 산둥 타이산으로 자리를 옮겼다.

2022년 월드컵 국가대표 멤버이며 지난해 3월 우루과이와의 국가대표 평가전에서도 뛰었다.

Former Shandong Taishan midfielder Son Jun-ho, the Korean footballer who was detained in China for 319 days and released last month, has joined K5 team Kunyoong FC, a club official told the Korea JoongAng Daily on Monday.

The official move to the amateur club has not been previously reported.

The K5 is an amateur Korean football league that sits below the semi-professional K4. Son was able to join the K5 team even after the K League transfer window closed last month, as the amateur league does not fall under professional K League rules.

Son's transfer to the amateur league reportedly comes because he needs time to find his footing before returning to a professional league, but the Kunyoong FC official said Monday that he is not sure whether or when Son will return to Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, the last K League 1 team he played for.

The 31-year-old footballer was detained on May 12 last year at an airport in Shanghai in what China called a bribery investigation.

Chinese authorities formally arrested him in June, exactly 37 days after detaining him. Under Chinese law, police can detain suspects for up to 37 days before a prosecutor approves an arrest.

The arrest came amid a crackdown on match-fixing in Chinese football but was interpreted as a possible political move aimed at putting pressure on the Korean government. The exact details surrounding Son’s arrest remain unclear. When, where and how his trial took place has not been publicly disclosed.

Son returned to Korea on March 25 after being held in China for 319 days.

He was reportedly cleared of bribery charges following a 10-day closed-door trial in China, according to multiple Korean media outlets.

Son started his career at K League 1 team Pohang Steelers in 2014 and transferred to fellow K League 1 team Jeonbuk in 2018 before joining Shandong in 2021.

He saw the most success during his time at Jeonbuk where he played as a regular pick and won the league in 2018, 2019 and 2020, when Jeonbuk lifted the Korean FA Cup — now called the Korea Cup.

He also has 20 caps under his belt, making his first cap in 2018, and went on to play in the 2022 World Cup. He last appeared for the national team in a friendly against Uruguay in March last year.
