Over 50,000 people, including Buddhists from both Korea and overseas, joined the parade and marched together, according to an organizing committee dedicated to preservation of the tradition.

Roads between Dongdaemun and the Jonggak intersection were closed off and intercity buses made detours to make room for the parade.

The parade and other festivities, which have an over 1,000-year-long history, continued over the weekend until Sunday.

The celebration has been listed on Unesco’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List since 2020. Culture Minister Yu In-chon also participated in the parade on Saturday.
