The Korean government decided to provide $300,000 in humanitarian aid to Brazil to support the nation's ongoing relief efforts in response to floods, the Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

"The government hopes that its humanitarian aid to Brazil would support the recovery of the affected areas and help residents in those areas swiftly return to their daily lives," the ministry said.

The floods, which hit Brazil's southern Rio Grande do Sul state, left 161 people dead, 806 injured, 85 missing and approximately 581,633 displaced as of May 22, according to the ministry.
