The majority Democratic Party (DP) is engrossed in protecting its leader Lee Jae-myung from his own judicial risks by trying to monopolize the chairmanships of all 18 standing committees in the National Assembly, submitting a special motion to impeach prosecutors for “fabricating” the remittance of $8 million to North Korea, in which Lee is apparently involved, and revising the party’s constitution to help Lee run in the next presidential election despite his ongoing trials.
