Minister of Science and ICT Lee Jong-ho visited the Heavy Ion Accelerator Research Institute at the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) in Yuseong District, western Daejeon on Monday.
Science and ICT Minister Lee Jong-ho visited the IBS to inspect the trial operation of the heavy ion accelerator and to gather opinions on its construction, operation and utilization.
The heavy ion accelerator is capable of accelerating both hydrogen ions (protons) and heavier ions to nearly the speed of light to collide with target materials.
Performance checks, through trial operations, will span from the end of June to August.
