LG Energy Solution employees discuss the development of a new AI-powered system that could drastically reduce the battery cell design process to a day. [LG ENERGY SOLUTION]
LG Energy Solution developed an AI-powered system that could shorten the battery cell design process to a day, a drastic cutback from the previous two-week time frame.
The Korean battery maker said Sunday the new recommendation system will lead to substantial cost savings and improved operational efficiency. The model has been trained on approximately 100,000 design cases deriving from the company’s 30 years of data.
The process previously took longer because battery cell designers had to draft multiple proposals and repeatedly estimate their performance to meet clients’ specifications for capacity, energy density and resistance. The AI, by contrast, can generate a design plan, including performance verification, within a day after a customers' requirements are entered.
“By incorporating AI technology into cell design, which determines battery performance, we aim to deliver overwhelming product competitiveness and differentiated customer value,” said LG Energy Solution Chief Digital Officer Lee Jin-kyu in a statement.
The AI model is currently in the pilot stage, and LG Energy Solution plans to fully integrate it into its internal cell development system as early as October of this year.
