5.8 trillion won in bank notes returned to BOK in first half of 2024

An employee arranges stacks of 50,000 won ($36.28) bank notes at Hana Bank's Counterfeit Notes Response Center in Jung District, central Seoul, on Wednesday. The amount of 50,000 won bank notes returned to the Bank of Korea stood at 5.8 trillion won during the first half of this year, compared to a total of 12 trillion won issued during the same period, according to a report by Rep. Jeon Yong-gi's office based on the central bank data. The return rate stood at 49.1 percent, down from 77.8 percent during the same period of last year, indicating active money circulation.
