Doosan Enerbility lands $418 million order to build turbines for South Gyeongsang plant

Doosan Enerbility secured a 580 billion won ($418 million) order from Korea Midland Power (Komipo), a state-run power supplier of the Korea Electric Power Corporation, to supply gas and steam turbines for a combined cycle power plant in Haman County, South Gyeongsang, the company said Monday.

Under the engineering, procurement and construction deal signed Friday, Doosan Enerbility will supply a gas turbine with a generation capacity of 380 megawatts, a steam turbine and supplementary equipment for the plant, which will be completed by 2027.

The Korean construction and nuclear machinery manufacturer will design, supply parts for, construct and run tests on the Haman County plant’s power block, which includes components used to generate electricity including combustion equipment, the generator and the cooling system in addition to the turbines.

The recent deal bumps the total orders placed for Doosan Enerbility’s products and related services for gas turbines to more than one trillion won this year.

The company also secured an order from Korea South-East Power to supply a gas turbine for a combined cycle power plant in Bundang, Gyeonggi and a deal with Korea Southern Power to perform long-term maintenance on a gas turbine installed at Andong Combined Cycle Power Plant Unit 2 earlier this month.

Last June, the firm bagged a 280 billion won order, also from Komipo, to supply a 380-megawatt gas turbine for a combined cycle plant in Boryeong, South Chungcheong. It was the first project to deploy a domestically developed standard model of a combined cycle gas turbine.

Doosan Enerbility says it aims to supply at least 100 gas turbines by 2038 on the back of the increase in liquefied natural gas-based power plants. The company cited increased electricity demand for Korea’s new semiconductor cluster and increased repowering projects for plants that run on coal as considerations in that target. It estimates that services, such as maintenance, related to the gas turbines will reach 1 trillion won in revenue in 2038.

“This deal is a stamp of recognition for [Doosan Enerbility’s] capability in constructing power plants and producing turbines. With this, we will also strengthen our competitiveness in the global market,” Doosan Enerbility Vice President Lee Hyeon-ho said of the Haman plant order through the company’s news release.
