Man arrested for allegedly killing neighbor with 80 cm sword outside apartments in northern Seoul

A 37-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly killing his neighbor with a sword in Eunpyeong District, northern Seoul.

According to police, the man is accused of murdering the neighbor with an 80 centimeter (31 inch) sword at the main gate of the apartment complex at around 11:30 p.m. on Monday.

Although the suspect fled to his residence immediately after the incident, police apprehended him about an hour later.

The victim was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital by paramedics.

Police will request an arrest warrant for the suspect after investigating his motive and the details of the incident.

According to a report from local news broadcaster YTN, police had previously permitted the offender to own the sword.

Additionally, police stated that the suspect was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the offense.

No specific relationship between the suspect and the victim has been confirmed yet.
