Lee failed to earn a single point at Champ-de-Mars Arena in Paris, instead conceding four points in the first period and three points in the second for the loss.  
 
In wrestling, wrestlers try to pin both of their opponent’s shoulders to the mat during two three-minute periods. They earn points throughout the match for takedowns, holds, throws and other moves. If neither wrestler is pinned, the one who scores the most points wins.
 
Lee is one of the three Korean wrestlers at this year’s Olympics alongside Kim Seung-jun and Lee Han-bit.  
 
Wrestling has appeared at every Olympics since 1896 except the 1900 Games. Korea has won 36 medals — 11 gold, 11 silver and 14 bronze — in the sport at the Olympics.  
 
Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly said that Lee Seung-chan ended his Olympic medal run after losing Monday's match. In fact, he could still continue the run through a repechage bracket.
