Korean weightlifter Kim Su-hyeon finished sixth in the women’s 81-kilogram final at the Paris Olympics Saturday after lifting a total of 250 kilograms.
Kim started by failing to lift 110 kilograms on her first attempt in the snatch at the South Paris Arena in Paris, but succeeded on her second attempt. She failed to lift 115 kilograms on her third try.
Going into the clean and jerk with 110, she lifted 140 kilograms on her first attempt, but failed to lift 147 on the remaining two attempts to finish with a final 250 kilograms.
Solfrid Koanda of Norway won a gold medal after a total score of 275 — 121 kilograms in the snatch and 154 kilograms in the clean and jerk. Her clean and jerk and total scores set new Olympic records.
Sara Ahmed of Egypt secured silver after 268, while Neisi Dajomes of Ecuador took bronze with 267.
The result blows another chance for Korea to medal in weightlifting at this year’s Olympics. Among five Korean weightlifter in Paris, no one has secured a medal as of press time Saturday. Jang Yeon-hak failed to medal in the men's 102-kilograms contest earlier the same day.
But Korea still has one more shot, with Park Hye-jeong set to compete in the women’s +81-kilogram on Sunday.
That event will wrap up the entire weightlifting schedule at the Olympics, which end Sunday.
