Industry Minister Ahn Duk-geun met with a delegation of U.S. senators and discussed bilateral economic partnerships in areas including cutting-edge technologies, his office said Tuesday.

Ahn met the delegation led by Sen. Bill Hagerty of Tennessee, along with senators from South Dakota, Delaware, Alaska, Michigan, Missouri and Alabama to exchange opinions on strengthening cooperation, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

“Amid the intensifying volatility in the global economy, South Korea and the United States can achieve mutual prosperity and enhance stability in the global supply chain,” Ahn said during the meeting.

The minister also pointed out that Korean firms have been playing a key role in the U.S. industrial ecosystem by expanding their investment in emerging sectors, such as chips, batteries and electric vehicles.

Ahn asked the senators to pay close attention to U.S. trade policies so that Korean firms can continue their businesses in the world’s top economy while bolstering the supply chain, the ministry added.
