Ulsan HD and Gwangju FC have relocated venues for their upcoming AFC Champions League Elite (ACLE) matches scheduled later this month, moving away from their home stadiums after foreign coaches raised concerns about the poor pitch quality at the K League teams’ grounds.

울산 HD와 광주FC가 외국 감독들이 두 K리그 팀의 좋지 않은 잔디 상태에 대해 우려를 표명하자 이번달로 예정된 AFC 챔피언스리그엘리트(ACLE) 경기 장소를 홈 경기장에서 다른 곳으로 이전했다.


Ulsan will play their ACLE group stage match against Vissel Kobe on Oct. 23 at Ulsan Stadium, the home of K3 team Ulsan Citizen, while Gwangju will face Johor Darul Ta'zim on Oct. 22 at Yongin Mireu Stadium in Yongin, Gyeonggi, 268 kilometers (166 miles) from Gwangju.

울산은 10월 23일 비셀 고베와의 ACLE 조별 리그 경기를 K3 팀 울산시민축구단의 홈구장 울산종합운동장에서 치른다. 광주는 10월 22일 광주시에서 268km 떨어진 경기도 용인의 용인미르스타디움에서 조호르 FC를 상대한다.


An Ulsan official told the Korea JoongAng Daily on Monday that the AFC ordered Ulsan to relocate their upcoming ACLE match after inspecting the pitch at Munsu Football Stadium, Ulsan’s usual home ground, and finding it unsuitable. Ulsan selected Ulsan Stadium, as its pitch was deemed to be in acceptable condition.

울산 HD 관계자는 월요일(10월 7일) AFC가 울산 홈구장인 문수축구경기장의 잔디 상태를 점검한 뒤 적합하지 않은 상태라고 판단해 구단 측에 다가오는 ACLE 경기 장소를 이전하라고 지시했다고 코리아중앙데일리에 말했다. 구단은 울산종합운동장이 괜찮은 잔디 상태인 것으로 판단해 장소를 변경하게 됐다.



The official added that whether Ulsan will play future ACLE home games at Munsu Football Stadium depends on how quickly the Ulsan Infrastructure Corporation can restore its pitch.

구단 관계자는 또 울산이 남은 ACLE 홈 경기를 문수축구경기장에서 치를 수 있을지는 울산시설공단이 얼마나 빠르게 잔디를 복원시키느냐에 달렸다고 설명했다.


Kawasaki Frontale manager Toru Oniki had previously commented on the poor pitch quality after the ACLE match against Ulsan on Sept. 18, noting that players prefer to play on well-maintained fields. Potholes at Munsu Football Stadium were even visible on camera.

가와사키 프론탈레 오니키 도루 감독은 9월 18일 울산과 ACLE 경기를 치른 뒤 잔디 상태에 대해 선수들은 유지가 잘 된 그라운드에서 뛰는 것을 선호한다고 말한 바 있다. (이날) 중계 화면으로도 문수축구경기장의 움푹 패인 곳이 보였다.



As for Gwangju, the club opted for Yongin Mireu Stadium despite its significant distance from Gwangju, as other stadiums in the city and nearby areas either failed to meet AFC standards or had poor pitch conditions, a Gwangju official said on Monday.

광주FC는 광주에서 매우 먼 거리인데도 용인미르스타디움을 선택했다. 이에 대해 광주FC 관계자는 광주시와 근접 지역에 있는 다른 경기장 모두 AFC 기준에 맞지 않거나 잔디 상태가 좋지 않아서 내린 결정이라고 월요일 설명했다.


The Gwangju official added that the team may use Gwangju World Cup Stadium for the remaining ACLE home games if the pitch condition improves.

구단 관계자는 또 광주월드컵경기장의 잔디 상태가 개선되면 남은 ACLE 홈경기를 경기장에서 치를 수도 있다고 말했다.
