MDP Responds in kind to Kim Young-sam's Attacks

The Millennium Democratic Party (MDP) has finally broken its silence and attacked former president Kim Young-sam.
On March 20, MDP spokesman Jung Dong-young announced that "A president responsible for ruining Korea has no right to discuss domestic affairs. Kim Young-sam should cease all political intervention." These comments are significant considering the MDP's initial strategy of totally ignoring Kim Young-sam's barrage of mudslinging.
The MDP went on to criticize the Grand National Party(GNP) chief campaign organizer Hong Sa-duck and GNP leader Lee Hoe-chang for recently seeking out Kim Young-sam's advice.
MDP spokesman Jung continued his verbal attack saying that the main perpetrators of the Korean national crisis deserve to stand on trial for the damage they had done; yet instead, they've reunited in order to disrupt the elections.
MDP campaign planning team head Kim Han-gil remarked,"GNP leader Lee must decide whether to look to Kim Young-sam as a basis of reform or as a political teacher."
Such strategy changes by the MDP are significant for several reasons. By ensuring that the public sees Kim Young-sam and the GNP as one and the same, the MDP can present themselves as saviors in times of economic crisis.
The MDP's change of plan is also meant to 'rekindle the MDP boom in popularity.' As the upcoming election seems to have turned into an MDP-GNP conflict, the MDP is becoming increasingly perplexed. By provoking the Democratic People's Party and Kim Young-sam, the MDP believes it can provoke counterattacks from its rivals, which will result in Kim Young-sam joining in the election fray. If this happens, there will undoubtedly be a split among GNP voters in Yongnam and the metropolitan city areas.
