Following the changes, which are effective Saturday, a family of four will pay 2,270 won more per month for electricity and 5,400 won per month for gas.
The price of gas used for heating and cooking will increase 15.9 percent from tomorrow, adding an average of 5,400 per month to the household gas bill.
Electricity rates will increase by 5 won per kilowatt hour from next month. This is the sharpest increase since a new billing system went into effect in 2021. Gas rates will also be increasing, by 1.11 won per megajoules.
According to Korea Electric Power Corp. (Kepco) , the government decided to raise the annual average fuel costs twice next year -– once in April and again in October. Korea Gas Corp. announced that gas prices will rise -- in May, July and October.
