86% of Layoffs at Banks are Women
86% of all discharged bank employees in the first half of this year were women, according to assemblywoman Lee Mi Kyung of the oppostion Grand National Party(GNP) on October 26.Lee, in a report to the National Assembly's National Audit, said , '5,148 members were fired under the term 'honorary' leave at Cho Hung, Korea Commercial, Korea First, Hanil, Seoul, Exchange, Kookmin, Industrial, and Housing Bank, and out of that total 4,462 were women.'
95.5% of the Korean Exchange Bank's layoffs were women.
Lee asserted, 'Positional retirement age is absolutely unfavorable to women, and it should be removed.'
