Consumer Electronics Companies Agree to Standardized Parts

The big three consumer electronics companies, Daewoo, LG and Samsung Electronics agreed to standardize their main parts, on November 3.
The big three which began consultations for parts standardization in March, 1995 announced that they agreed to a standard size for 48 main parts initially, after three years and seven months of negotiations.
An industry source commented, ' The competitive efficiency of the three consumer electronics companies will rise by as much 15~20% and the competitiveness of companies producing parts will also be improved sharply.'
In the past, parts companies had to produce three different size parts, but from now on, they can make unified size parts.
Meanwhile, the big three plan to push the second standardization for more than 200 objects from 1999 to 2001.
