President Promises Harmony in Political Reform

President Kim Dae Jung, on February 1, asserted that he will propel more harmonious East-West Korean relations through political reorganization.
Kim held an interview with Masan Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation(MBC) to celebrate its 30th anniversary and promised to introduce a new electoral process modeled on the German system in which voters can vote separately for both the candidate as well as the party of their choice for more effective political representation.
He added, 'Last year, we were hurt by unprecedented economic turbulence, so I was concentrating all the government's efforts on economic problems. However, it is about time for political reform and reorganization. We have absorbed some opposition lawmakers in order to have better East-West representation in our party. I feel that it helped develop political growth and regional harmony.'
The interview was held on January 28 and will be aired on February 1 at 7:30 pm.
Kim emphasized, 'There is no hope without East-West regional cooperation, and I will do my very best to manage this problem in terms of personnel and government appointments.'
