Small Earthquake Hits Metropolitan Area

A small earthquake registering 3.5 on the Richter-scale occurred in the Seoul Metropolitan Area at 2:14 a.m. on February 24 (KST).
The earthquake's epicenter was in the West Sea, 55 km west-south-west from Inchon City.
This was the seventh earthquake to hit Korea this year, although all were minor.
A number of residents in Inchon and Seoul were awaken by the shaking of their buildings and beds. Many rushed to telephone authorities to ask what had just happened.
Earthquakes seldom happen in the West Sea, but since 1996 six earthquakes have occured there.
