Kangwon"s Casino Will Cater to Koreans

A casino for Koreans as well as foreigners will open in Kangwon Province in May of next year, according to provincial government officials on Thursday.
According to sources, the Kangwon provincial government is scheduled to invest 16.8 billion won in building a provisional casino with 500 slot machines and 30 game tables in Jeongseon district before opening a large-scale main casino resort.
The casino's, where Korean citizens will be allowed to enter for the first time, construction will commence in June 1999, trial operations are expected to get underway in March 2000.
As of now, Koreans are not allowed by law to enter local casinos.
The Kangwon government plans to build a casino complex in the area of an abandoned coal mine in Jeongseon district in an effort to develop tourism in that remote place.
