Queen to Talk with Handicapped Students

Britain's Queen Elizabeth II on her visit to Korea plans to meet handicapped students at Ewha Womans University on April 20, in honor of the Day for Handicapped People.
The five students who will meet with the Queen are all high-achieving students: Kim Ye Jin, 20, is a third-year student in Special Education and is blind; Lee Ji Hyun, 24, is a senior in Special Education, and is also blind; Kim Hyang Mi, 22, is a senior in Social Work, who has cerebral palsy; Lee Jin Young, 20, a freshman in Art and Design, is deaf; and Choi Hoo Rim, 20, is also a freshman in Design, who is deaf.
Queen Elizabeth II will have tea and talk with them at 3:20 p.m. at the student lounge, her last scheduled stop at the university. For the Queen, to meet and talk with people in Korea while sitting down is very exceptional.
Miss. Kim, who suffers from cerebral palsy, said, 'I will celebrate her birthday and ask about the social welfare system in England and present my vision for Korean handicapped welfare.'
A university official said, 'According to the British Embassy's request that the Queen hopes to meet students struggling with a disability, we selected 5 out of 16 specially-admitted students.'
Pottery made by an acclaimed Korean artist will be contributed to the Queen's china collection.
The British Embassy anounced on April 19 that they decided to give the Queen pottery colored with seven kinds of glaze that artist Lim Jae Young presented.
Lim is a multiple prize winner including the Minister of Education's top prize in 1977.
