Entrance Quota at SNU to be Reduced

The entrance quota at Seoul National Universities(SNU)'s undergraduate school will be decreased to 4,298 in 2001, a 612's decrease from 4,910 in 2000.
In 2005, the number of undergraduate students will be 14,222, 75 percent of the present level, as a result of reducing 614 students yearly from 2002 to 2005.
SNU prepared on May 4 'The revised reduction plan of undergraduate quota'. This plan shows an earlier and larger reduction than the one SNU reported to the Ministry of Education last October.
According to the previous plan, the student number of SNU will be 16,040 in 2006, by reducing 150 a year from 2000. However the ministry required a drastic curtailment as a prior condition of 'Brain Korea 21', a project to support a graduate-oriented school, saying, 'SNU's plan falls short of our expectations.'
