5,838 Related to Apartment Management Corruption
The police on May 6 announced that it conducted a massive investigation into corruption in apartment building management from March 7 to April 30, and indicted 5,838 suspects on 2,390 cases, ultimately sentencing 147 persons to prison terms while the remainder received suspended sentences.It is one of the largest and most widespread investigations for a single case in domestic crime history.
Monetary losses stemming from breach of trust and embezzlement might reach 14 million dollars in total, the police revealed.
Out of 8,864 total domestic apartment complexes, 1,996, or 22.5 percent, turned out to be involved in varying degrees of management corruption.
Misappropriation of management fees topped the list of corruption with 29.5 percent of 1,720 persons, followed by kickbacks on fire insurance premiums(1,330 persons), kickbacks on construction bids(679) and cleaning services(616).
A source from the police mentioned, ' Apartment managers' corruption was prevalent in places with fewer watchful eyes of residents. There should be structural changes made to the overall management system as soon as possible.'
