President Stresses No Time Limit for "Sunshine Policy"

President Kim Dae Jung said on May 17 that his engagement policy towards North Korea does not have a set deadline nor are there any explicit measures he will take in the event NK does not respond positively to his 'Sunshine Policy'.
He added that South Korea will continue to strive to push through the engagement policy because he firmly believes NK will accept the policy once it understands the South's true intentions.
President Kim stated that NK should not miss the chance to end the cold war structure and the opportunity to peacefully coexist on the Korean Peninsula.
During his visit to Russia scheduled for the end of this month, he will meet with President Boris Yeltsin and discuss the future of the proposed six-party talks, which will include not only both Koreas, the U.S., and China but Russia and Japan as well.
He emphasized that South Korea expressly supports a coordinated engagement policy approach to NK, adding that the six-party talks will be different in character, range, and goals than the current four-party talks.
