Fiber Optic Telecommunication Available in Apartments

The 'cyber apartment', equipped with super high-speed telecommunication systems for visual phones and the Internet, is becoming more common in Korea.
According to market sources, the Samsung Corporation will fit every apartment in the new Samsung housing estate in Yuljun, Suwon with ultraspeed optical cables to allow remote meetings and use of the Internet. Samsung will unveil a show home early next month.
The company also plans to build a 'cyber center', an Internet and telecommunications office, in the housing development and open to its residents.
Hyundai Industrial Development & Construction Company announced that it is negotiating with telecommunication companies, including Korea Telecom, to incorporate super high-speed fiber optics into the apartments which are constructed from now on.
Han Shin Construction Company has also laid optical cables in the apartments in Handang-dong, Seoul, which are to be sold in lots late this month.
A market source said, 'In the future telecommunication facilities will be essential as interest in the Internet and multi-media has grown.'
